FältCom MIIPS® Committo
CAN, Ethernet, GPRS, EDGE, HSPA+, 4G(LTE)
The FältCom MIIPS® Committo is a versatile communication platform offering high security, availability and functionality. Comprehensive remote managment and monitoring are promoted by FältCom’s Device
Management system. This Linux based platform allows for local intelligence in vehicles and at remote sites globally.
The FältCom MIIPS® Committo is a communication platform with many areas of use, including secure
mobile LANs, Internet access and positioning of vehicles and other mobile units. The customer can achieve wireless Machine to Machine (M2M) communication in a very secure and cost-efficient manner. Monitoring, reading and control of equipment can be conducted in real-time.

The FältCom MIIPS® Committo can also be used as an advanced router with the built-in firewall in regular WANs alternatively as a Network Management node allowing for redundancy through the cellular network.
Device Management
The Device Management server, FältCom Enterprise Server, allows for comprehensive remote management and monitoring. This offer many advantages compared to the common stand-alone solutions on the market, among other things the elimination of the need for on-site configuration and field upgrades of the terminals. This substantially reduces the Total Costs for Ownership (TCO).

To continuously send uncontrolled data over a cellular network can cause excessive costs for the data communication.
Thanks to the local intelligence and advanced configuration possibilities in the terminal the data communication through the FältCom MIIPS® Committo can be controlled effectively thus reducing unnecessary data traffic with significant cost-savings as a result.

Article No. FältCom MIIPS® Committo:
206312 Ethernet, HSPA +, 4G(LTE), GPS
The FältCom MIIPS® Committo meets applicable standards for industrial, vehicle and alarm use, fulfilling corresponding requirements for heat, cold, vibrations, shock, radio interference etc. Customisation of the software as well as the hardware can be done for customer specific functionality and service needs.

Interfaces
Ethernet
The terminal has 2 Ethernet ports for connection to WAN and LAN. Both ports can also be configured for separate LANs, each comprising up to 253 usable IP addresses as standard.
Serial
The 2 serial ports makes possible transparent connection serial to IP and with optional logic for control of the connection which is often a problem in serial communication.
CANbus
The 2 CANbus1 ports can be connected e.g. to a vehicles CANbus system in accordance with the FMS-Standard and Bus-FMS-Standard2 for retrieving operating data such as engine status and service needs. For example fuel consumption and driver behavior can be supervised, promoting efficient ecodriving.
Besides handling of CAN information in customer-adapted applications, the hardware supports filtering out of CAN data.
Inputs
The 6 ports can be configured separately to provide event notifications for circuit make/break, threshold values or window values. These ports can be connected e.g. to sensors for door opening, temperature and humidity.
I/O ports
The 4 digital I/O ports can be used to detect and control different external equipment.
Relays (Out)
Two 1-pole switching relays for galvanic isolation.
USB
The USB host port can be used for expansion with such accessories as memory sticks, hard disk drive, Bluetooth, WiFi and ZigBee.
SD Memory
An internal SD connector allows for expansion with e.g. memory stick.
All interfaces can be configured remotely from the FältCom Enterprise Server.
Note: Depending on use of the interfaces, a corresponding driver or customisation of the software might be needed.
Functionality and Features
The FältCom MIIPS® software supports a series of features that
1 Controller Area Network, a broadcast shared serial bus standard used mainly in the automotive sector or as field bus.
2 FMS; Fleet Management System. Many major truck and bus manufacturers have agreed to give third parties access to vehicle data wth a common interface as open standard, the FMS-Standard and the Bus-FMS-Standard respectively. Supported information is dependent upon vehicle equipment, improve functionality and security, offering many benefits when integrating with critical business and production systems. The FältCom MIIPS® software is available in several editions adapted for different application areas such as logistics, security and industrial automation.
Examples of patent pending functionalities:
• FältCom MLAN®, a technology for Mobile LAN allowing for easy transparent IP connection of terminals to the company’s internal network while maintaining the company’s IT policy.
• FältCom’s advanced technology for GPRS roaming between operators and countries makes possible the optimal selection of operator based on such information as GPRS coverage registered by the system.
• FältCom’s Poer Save management provides advanced possibilities for remote control of battery consumption. This feature also allows for connecting the terminal directly to a vehicles battery thus sending alerts and positions even though the ignition is switched off without risk for emptying the battery.
Other examples of features are the built-in firewall, web server, DHCP server/client and advanced routing possibilities.
New functionality is continuously added to the FältCom MIIPS® software as planned by FältCom.
Customisation of the software can be done for customer specific functionality and service needs.
Communication
The FältCom MIIPS® Committo is carrier independent, however Ethernet, GPRS/EDGE or HSDPA are
the standard choices to be used for the long-distance transmission of data.
Redundancy
A fixed connection over the Internet or other IP networks can be used as the primary carrier and GPRS/EDGE alternatively HSDPA as backup, providing redundancy for sending critical data.
The HSDPA version also supports GPRS/EDGE, offering redundant cellular netork carrier.
SMS can be used as an extra backup in the event that also GPRS/EDGE or HSDPA transmission is unavailable. Extendibility Future extendibility is provided by use of the SD memory, USB, Ethernet or a serial port to allow easy addition of interface modules for complementary wireless technologies such as Tetra, WiFi, Bluetooth and ZigBee. In such cases, a corresponding driver or customisation of the software might be needed.
Fixed and dynamic IP addressing
If a SIM card subscription with fixed IP address is used, server initiated communication can take place over the cellular network at
any time, this without the terminal first sending request for information. Hoever using a SIM card subscription with dynamic IP addressing can be fully satisfactory for many applications. An event
on the terminal side or the terminal itself can initiate the data session alternatively SMS can be used forwake-up of the terminal when needed.
High Security
Besides the basic security in cellular and fixed IP networks, the server and terminal software adds on its own security features which substantially strengthens the security level.
Some examples:
• The FältCom MIIPS® terminal has a built-in, secure and configurable firewall using iptables to support NAT/PAT, redundancy etc.
• Encryption using AES. RSA is used for key distribution and HMAC-D5 is used for authentication.
• Only registered terminals are accepted by the FältCom Enterprise Server. Unregistered terminal
access attempts ill be blocked and are logged as faults and notification can be sent by SMS, e-mail or XML
over TCP/IP.
Optional security features can be implemented for customer specific
needs.
High Availability
The FältCom MIIPS® technology offers a very high availability for use in demanding environments such as business critical systems, industries, vehicles etc.
Some examples:
• Redundant communication possibilities
• A hardware based watch-dog monitoring the processor and application status in the terminals and rebooting if necessary
• Terminals fulfilling applicable industrial, alarm and vehicle standards
Easy Set-up
The FältCom MIIPS® Committo can be delivered with installed SIM
card and with an essential custom configuration. When connected to power, the terminal fetches and auto-installs the device specific configuration from the FältCom Enterprise Server. This Plugand
Play functionality minimises the need of technical know-how, making the installation very simple and cost-efficient.
To obtain the optimal antenna selection at remote sites, direction and placement, the built-in facilities in the terminal can be used alternatively this can be managed remotely from the FältCom Enterprise Server.
